The Skin Benefits Of Turmeric
There’s a saying that goes, “what’s old is new again,” and in the beauty world we think it has some merit. New ingredients and technology are the lifeblood of product innovation, but sometimes it pays to look to the past (in some cases even the ancient past) to inform new skin solutions. We know the value of combining old and new to create something even more effective. One part of the past we constantly draw inspiration from is Ayurveda.
Not familiar with Ayurvedic healing? Hailing from Southeast Asia, Ayurveda is a whole-health holistic approach to medicine. It centers around the idea that natural therapies can help regain balance in the mind, body, and spirit to positively impact one’s health. While there are many herbs and plants that are common in Ayurvedic practices, one of the most common is Turmeric.
This bright yellow root is wonderful for the skin when incorporated into products, particularly those designed for fighting dullness and the appearance of pigmentation. Which is why we wanted to create the best Turmeric infused skincare products, to bring this ancient plant into the mainstream with efficacious formulations that would create a visible improvement for your complexion.

What is Turmeric?
Turmeric is a flowering plant that is part of the same family as ginger. The root of the plant is dried and then crushed up into a powder with a bright yellow hue that is unmistakable. You can usually find it in the spice aisle and it is commonly used in dishes like curry.
Turmeric’s active ingredient is called circumin and has anti-inflammatory benefits when incorporated into a healthy diet. It has also been shown to provide antioxidant protection as well.
What Does Turmeric do for Skin?
Those antioxidant properties have also been shown to extend to skincare products formulated with the ingredient. Interestingly enough, our products formulated with the ingredient help diminish the appearance of skin imperfections like post-acne marks with skin-brightening and evening benefits.
You can thank circumin again for those skin-beautifying benefits.
How do you use Turmeric?
We love DIY as much as the next person, but it’s definitely not a good idea to smear turmeric on your face — unless you want that vibrant golden color to stain your skin. Instead, look for products with it in their formulas, alongside other beneficial ingredients. Our Turmeric & Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque combines the super-powered spice with other skin-brightening ingredients like exfoliating Cranberry Seeds and resveratrol-rich Cranberry Seed Oil. Used two to three times weekly, it’s an “instant facial” that energizes the look of dull, fatigued skin. With a gentle exfoliation action, it uncovers softer, smoother skin and visibly brightens skin for an illuminated appearance.
Give your skin an energizing, antioxidant boost with this golden root. Extra credit if you mask while drinking a Turmeric latte.
