It absorbs quickly, has a nice, light smell and protects my skin from the sun. —Ronald, kiehls.com
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product It absorbs right in. It has a pleasant smell. I used the old version and don’t find the new one oily. I actually prefer the new version.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the same as spf 15 version I have used facial fuel for many years including the spf 15 version before it got discontinued. Currently using the regular version because the new spf formula is too oily. I would like some spf protection in the sun but not oily. Please bring back the Spf 15 formula in the large size.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Loyal Kiel’s guy but had to switch brands I tried this product after they discontinued the SPF15. Higher SPF would have been great but this formula is terrible. It does not absorb and fir some reason makes my eyes hurt and water.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product! Not as greasy as people have said and the guy who wrote a bad review because it stings when it gets in your eyes... then don’t put it in your eyes!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hurts Eyes The lotion sits on the skin and doesn't absorb well at all. As a result, it gets in your eyes and becomes really irritating. I had to discontinue using it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from New formula is too greasy I have oily skin. It's very difficult to find a good daily facial moisturizer that doesn't leave my skin oily and greasy to start the day. I LOVED the old Facial Fuel with SPF 15, because it did everything I wanted/needed it to. Unfortunately, this new SPF 20 formula ruined everything good about the old one. This formula is way too greasy and feels just like I'm putting standard sunscreen on my face in the morning. I can't use it anymore. Especially not for the price. Bring back the old formula, and I'll come back to using it again...or please fix this one!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SPF20 sucks SPF20 socks, very oily on the face. SPF15 was classic. Hope kiehls brings this back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Highly disappointed, now my face is oily I didn't realize there was more than one Facial Fuel Moisture Treatment, and meant to order the same that I used previously. What a dissapointment. This leaves my face super oily and not nearly as refreshed as the non-SPF formula. Stuck with a full 4.2 ounce bottle of product I can't use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dissapointing new formulation Kiehls pulled a quick one over their customers with the (unadvertised) switch from the SPF15 to the SPF20 version. The previous version was light on the skin, quick absorbing, and had a very pleasant and subtle scent to it. This current version is worse in every way and not worth the price premium of a kiehls product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Does Kiehls read these reviews? Does Kiehls read these reviews or simply see 1 star and copy and paste the exact same form response to every comment. As written by virtually every reviewer, the new lotion is not as good as the old lotion. Kiehls--Even Coca Cola realized the screwed up with new Coke and went back the original formula. Time to take a lesson from mistakes past.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very disappointed with the new formula I stay in India and have been a faithful customer of the Kiel’s products, until I bought the new SPF 20 facial fuel. Strongly request kiehls to get back the old formula with SPF 15

Rated 1 out of 5 by from SPF 20 is a huge failure IMO! I hope the product manager(s) are being reviewed periodically based on client feedback. Ruined a perfect product in a hurry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from rubbing my face for days The old version (SPF 15) was good. This product is so bad that it makes me wonder if anyone tried it before they released it. The lotion goes on so white from SPF that it takes me 10 minutes to rub it in fully, and yet I'm still often left with white streaks in my beard. This lotion gives you two options: use less cream and have a dry face, or use more cream and rub your face raw.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from New Formula - NOT as good Seems when they changed Facial Fuel w/ SPF form 15 SPF to 20 SPF it really went downhill. This used to be a light and easy to apply product that left your sking feeling great and not oily or "coated". New product is just OK, but nearly as good as previoous formula - BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL FACIAL FUEL.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful! STAINS! Bring back the old formula. This used to be my go to summer moisturizer. This new formula is not good. Sweats off more easily AND anything you sweat on/or get the moisturizer on ends up with ORANGE rust colored stains! Took us a long time to figure out what was causing the stains!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Embrace it as Sunscreen Seeing a lot of reviews that complain about this being too much like regular sunscreen, and about it not being as good as the prior formula (which was 15 SPF). My view is that you should just embrace it as actual sunscreen - if you don't like the smell and feel of this, just get the normal Facial Fuel, and then when you need sunblock.... use sunblock. In fact, Kiehl's should increase the SPF so it will actually protect skin for more than moderate exposure. At 20 SPF, this is good for only those occasions when you know in advance you'll have more than a little, but not a lot of sun. In other words, if I know I'll be exposed to direct sunlight for more than 30 minutes at a time, but less than an hour, than I use this product rather than normal facial fuel; if I expect longer exposure I use this product along with traditional sunblock. If the SPF were increased, the smell and greasy texture would likely also increase (great if not tho), but so too would its effectiveness as a sunscreen. I think the issue is that it is marketed as lotion that also protects against a little sun, so people expect it to be like lotion. But if you just call it sunscreen that also moisturizes your face, then people will expect the smell and texture of sunblock and be pleasantly surprised that it's not so bad. This formula, at this price point, isn't a great lotion or a great sunscreen, but would be worthwhile, I think, if it was a stronger sunscreen (since I don't think you can get the sun-blocking characteristics without the smell/texture, and you already carry a great lotion).

Rated 3 out of 5 by from go back to SPF 15 I have purchased for years...I agree that it can sting the eyes especially later in the day...I will have to look to another product unless I can find SPF 15 tube somewhere

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Goodbye Kiehl’s A once great product is now just another cheap greasy drugstore lotion. There is still some spf 15 facial fuel on amazon while it lasts. This was the ONLY “beauty” product I would buy other than deodorant and toothpaste. Such a good product that I considered it essential. Sad to part ways with Kiehl’s, but, Que sera sera. And no, I’m not going to buy a bunch of your other products hoping if I mix them they might remind me of the old product. Pass. I’ll be doing a deep dive into the interwebs to see if anyone has found a suitable replacement. I had already tried everything when I found Kiehl’s over a decade ago. I was willing to give my money to Kiehl’s for the rest of my life. Surely there is another product out there. Someone will get my money, but it won’t be Kiehl’s. Bye.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from new formula works great for me Don't agree with any other recent reviews saying new formula is greasy and hurts eyes. Have you ever used normal sunblock? THAT is greasy and can hurt eyes. I liked the old SPF 15 formula and also like the new SPF 20. Does not hurt my eyes at all nor feels too greasy..in fact don't feel ANY grease at all. People can be picky but really there is no other product I have found that invigorates my skin and keeps it protected from UV at the same time. Thank you Kiehl's for the great product! FYI this is NOT a sample review...have been using this for years.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not What it Was I have to agree with all who are not happy with the new formula. Though not as bad as some have said. Had I not purchased at buy one get one free I would probably return the product. It is sad to see Kiehls digging its heels in about the product given the overwhelming dissatisfaction expressed in the majority of the most recent reviews.. How hard would it be to make the old formula with the new SPF level 20.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I Don't Hate It But... ...I wish I had read the reviews first. First - kudos to Kiehl's for publishing the bad reviews along with the good. It makes the reviews overall far easier to trust. That said I agree with many comments here and wish you had kept the SPF15 formula. This isn't 'horrible' but it IS greasier. Like a woman's lotion it is greasier and leaves a shine on my face. OK at night but not when I'm going out. The smell is OK (a bit like tanning lotion) and I don't get the eye sting others have mentioned. Again, thanks Kiehl's for publishing all comments and not just favorable ones.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The only skincare I can get my husband to use! I’ve worked in the beauty industry for over 15 years and have given my husband so many nice products to use but he won’t touch them. I finally bought him facial fuel and he keeps asking for more every time he runs out! Happy that he’s using moisturizer and SPF every day! He loves the texture and the refreshing feeling of the the cream. Just buy it for your husband’s... it’s a great ‘guy’ product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from EYE BURNER I have been a loyal Kiehl's user for 15 years now and this is a disaster. It burns my eyes to the point where I have to flush my eyes while I'm working as my body temp heats up.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Greasy, hurts my eyes and smells strong Not a sample review - I purchased the 6.8 oz tube as I needed a daily moisturizer with SPF. Haven't gone through a third of this tube and I'm not sure if I will completely use it. Hurts my eyes almost every time I apply. I'm not new to applying near the eyes but this causes eyes to irritate for long after you're done applying. This is one of the main reasons for reduced usage. The other reason is the strong smell which I'm not a fan of. Greasy as it is, I have little to complain about it. Most SPF moisturizers are slightly to moderately greasy imo. This one is on the greasier side though. All other kiehls products are my go to. But I'll look elsewhere for a replacement to this daily moisturizer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why??? The old SPF formula was a product I loved for years. The extra SPF is fine but now its greasy and sort of sticky when dry. It stings if it gets in your eyes. Go back to old formula please

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Did change, but still OK I did notice the change to SPF 20, the lotion did not have the same lightness and brightness. The invigorating coolness of the SPF 15 formulation is gone. It does take a little longer to soak in. This means I've learned to use less, diluting the SFP benefits somewhat. But once it does soak in, it's fine. I do notice that by the end of the day I'm more eager to get this off my face again. But it's not a bad thing I be prompted to wash one's face after work. I'll continue to buy it, though I would like to see the older formula come back.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from New Coke vs. Old Coke I nearly didn't buy this new version of Facial Fuel sunscreen because of all the poor reviews, mostly people disappointed with the new SPF 20 formula. I wasn't a huge fan of the previous SPF 15 version, since it wasn't enough like classic Facial Fuel for my taste. But this is a good product. The consistency is a little lighter than the previous version, but it's not watery, and certainly not greasy. I like the somewhat shinier, healthier glow it gives my face when I apply it. I still think it should be more like Facial Fuel in terms of scent and feel, but this is a fine daily moisturizer in the meantime.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from So long, Kiehls Kiehls changed the formula of yet another product and I finally have to say goodbye. I've been an avid Kiehls supporter for 15 years. One of my friends introduced me to their products and I got hooked. In that time, most of the products I use have been discontinued or reformulated. It started when they discontinued men's alcohol-free facial toner (brown bottle) and it's ending with Facial Fuel SPF 15. Nothing was wrong with Facial Fuel SPF 15. When they came out with 20 my initial reaction was awesome: more protection! But I finally had a chance to try it out and it just feels like sunscreen. It's super thick and it doesn't absorb well. This is the final straw for me and Kiehls. I'm done. I'm moving on. I've found new products to use and, honestly, I won't be coming back. Kiehls is working over time in these comments but isn't making any changes. Kiehls seems to be "listening" but that's all they're doing. They're not going to change the product. They're not going to bring back SPF 15. Time to move on folks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Blah - new formula is not as nice as the old one I have to agree with the other reviewers on the new formula with SPF 20: it is greasier, and doesn't feel as lightweight or "cooling" on the skin as the SPF 15 formula that Kiehl's had before. In fact, I have a travel size of the SPF 15 (old formula) and a large tube of the SPF 20 (new formula) for home use, and each time I travel and use the older tube/formula, I realize how much better I like it than the new formula. The new formula definitely feels greasier and adds shine to my face. I've used this stuff for years, but now find myself looking elsewhere for a new daily moisturizer solution for the dry sunny climate that I live in - what a pain. Don't try to fix something when it works well!
