This new product is a joke! I will have to find a new product to replace the old balm and it won't be from Kiehl's. Just terrible.

I was more than a little surprised when I went to replace my dwindling supply of after shave balm and told that it had been discontinued. I was given a sample of the replacement product and was on my way. Not to echo most of the other reviews, let it suffice for me to say that it is beyond disappointing. Like the other reviewers, I was a loyal customer (twenty+ years) and am now back on the street looking for something that can even come close which this "replacement" does not. It is thin, ineffective, and expensive, none of the things that the believers want nor need. Parting is never easy, but relationships are a two way street, and when one throws the other under the bus, you have to keep going - the other way.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Browndog How is this a suitable replacement for the after-shave balm ?
Let me add another voice to the chorus calling for the return of the ultimate after-shave balm. That wonderful product was my introduction to Kiehl's and I've been a loyal customer for years. You have eliminated the one item I found absolutely essential from your product line. Like others have noted, you can imagine my enthusiasm for replacing your ultimate after shave balm that worked flawlessly for years, with the two-step process of a gel followed by some inferior moisturizer. Inefficient and ineffective - perfect.

Ever review before this one says it all. You eliminated a great product and replace it with something cheap at the same price. I guess your margins look better, am looking for another company.
Rated 3 out of 5 by JOMA Nice peppermint but too thin
I agree that this is too thin and preferred the previous balm version. Also why is it the same price as before if it's mostly aloe vera gel?! If it were mostly squalene then $22 a bottle would be justified. I do like the peppermint, however, and I did purchase a second bottle. I probably will use the regular facial cream instead or until the next time they change. I would like to see a thicker formula with the peppermint (no methol, etc.). I did like the eucalyptus one from years ago though it was more for oily skin (I have dryish skin). The aloe in this does sooth my skin overall though.
Side note: sad to see the boston store close recently. Sorry the store workers lost their jobs. I shopped there and not online to help them keep their jobs!
Rated 1 out of 5 by Justmetoo I guess you blew it...again
What more can I say. The other reviews tell the story—a poor, uncalled for substitute for a good product. This is not the first time Kiehl's has blown it since becoming just another cosmetics company. Suggest you take a look at your original mission and customers wants and needs and not so much about what everybody else is doing.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Peter Doesn't Feel Good to Use - Bring Back the Pleasure of Shaving (and yes, Bring Back the Balm)
I have tried to be measured in my response to the many Kiehl's product eliminations of the past 10 years. I used to be a stalwart brand advocate, but the new ownership makes it tough to keep loving them. Here is yet another example.
I, too, was a balm user, and liked the feeling of a BALM on my skin after shaving. This formulation is thin and flimsy and light in a cheap-feeling way, and doesn't help calm the skin after use. The After-Shave Balm and the Men's Alchohol-Free After Toner were my pleasurable after shave products that soothed and made me feel ready. With the elimination of both, Kiehl's has taken much of the pleasure out of shaving that their much-admired and previous products afforded.
My favorite is when Kiehl's Customer Service tries to appease me by saying, "We know how upsetting it can be when one of our favorite products is discontinued; have you considered ...?" Really? And, Yes. That is why I'm complaining. Your other offerings don't cut it.
Rated 1 out of 5 by kickinwing This needs negative hearts
There isn't too much to say about this product other than it's horrible. I would like to give this negative stars/hearts if it was possible. Hopefully they bring back the balm.
