Apricot Kernel Oil is extracted from apricot kernels and has a very high Vitamin E content (aiding fast absorption) and is a trygliceride composed of 75% oleic acid and 20% linoleic acid, and unsaturated fatty acids esterified with glycerin - similar to avocado oil and sesame oil. Found to be highly compatible with the skin. Apricot Kernel Oil moisturizes and softens skin while helping retain clarity and suppleness.
This "vegetal coral" is an unusual, mineral-rich red algae with the unusual ability to produce a gel which forms a self-defensive, calcified shell from minerals found in sea water. It has been shown to thicken the stratum corneum layer of skin and to help reinforce the moisture barrier function of the skin.

Sophia G asked:I'm wondering what the difference is between the Abyssine Lotion and Abyssine Cream... I have a sample of the lotion which is great, but I see the cream on the top 10 favorite Kiehl's products which made me wonder. I'm guessing the cream is thicker, but has anyone tried both and noticed a big difference? Thank you!Apr 27, 2012
Heidi K:I love both the lotion and the cream. I live in the Midwest and have combination skin. When the weather is humid and my skin becomes more oily in the spring/summer, I use the lotion during that time. When the weather and my skin become dry in the fall/winter, I switch to the cream, which I've found to be more moisturizing. With either product, not very much is needed because a little goes a long way. Depending upon the time of year you intend to use the lotion or cream, I agree with Karin A. and suggest that you obtain samples of each item to determine which suits you best.Aug 14, 2012
Karin A:I've used both. The lotion works great for me, the cream is way too thick and heavy for me. I love having the SPF as well. You can try samples of both and decide. I always try samples of the Kiehl's products before I buy them. If they don't show as available, any Kiehl's store will put together a sample of the cream for you.May 3, 2012
